Educator's Resource Guide
Introduction
The WWII H.R.S. is dedicated to preserving and displaying artifacts of WWII. Members of our organization own some of the best collections of WWII artifacts, vehicles, firearms, and uniforms in the world. Our members are delighted to share their knowledge and collections to better inform the public and students about WWII. Through these displays we attempt to honor the veterans of that war for their sacrifice in destroying the Axis powers. The WWII H.R.S. offers to educators this page of resources to assist in their curriculum. Contact the Board of Directors for more information about how our organization can help.
School Presentations
The WWII H.R.S. Inc., can offer educators an opportunity to introduce historic interpreters into the classroom. Our members are always interested in helping their communities to bring history to life for students and the public. Our members do not charge for their services although they usually accept donations for their travel expenses or maintenance on their historic vehicles.
**Note** Weapons are often part of displays. These can be deactivated and made safe for displays, or can be omitted at the request of the educator. Please make sure that the school is aware of displays that may include firearms or edged weapons. If there are legal issues, please inform the member beforehand so they can be omitted from the display.
Classroom Ideas
WWII Veteran presentation
Contact your local Veteran's organization and ask a WWII Veteran to share their experiences with your classroom.
Consider coordinating the visit of a WW-II veteran with a member of the WW-II HRS Inc. to enhance your school event.
WWII
and your Community
Help students discover how WW-II impacted their community. During the war, many local businesses changed from
making civilian products to making war goods. Other businesses sponsored bond rallies, dances, and other community activities. As an example, Walt Disney drew insignia for military organizations, and helped make training films for the military. IBM plants made firearms, Ford made Jeeps, and Boeing made bombers.
Show and Tell
Ask students to bring photos of a relative that may have served in the military or worked in a war production plant and talk about what their relative did. For those that have no information about their relatives, have them find a family friend or contact the VFW or American Legion.
Field Trips
The WWII HRS Inc. sponsors many events throughout the United States. Check our events for public displays and coordinate a field trip. Click here for contacts
