Board of Directors & Staff Message Board

President
Elliott James

Two rumors have been circulated regarding the HRS. I want to end them now.

Insurance

Rumor 1: The HRS insurance policy ends on January 31st, 2007 and after that date we are without insurance for events.

Truth: The current insurance policy has been extended through February while our Treasurer, an insurance broker, locates a better policy. The current policy is, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, inadequate and leaves the society exposed. The new policy will remedy these problems. As a general observation, it has become increasingly difficult to find any insurance company that is willing to cover our type of organization. I know there is one new re-enacting society forming in the mid-west that has adopted the policy that members must carry their own insurance. The HRS will not be following this example.

To cover the increasing insurance costs, the HRS is adopting a policy where members receive a discount and non-members pay full price to attend an HRS sponsored event. We are no longer going to subsidize anyone who is not an HRS member.

Registered Agent

Rumor 2: The board has not appointed a new registered agent and the role continues to be held by Ken Thompson.

Truth: The Board of Directors asked for a volunteer living in Illinois. No candidate came forward who was acceptable to all members. Consequently, the Board appointed Jonathan Stevens as the registered agent on Sunday. The registered agent is responsible for receiving correspondence from the state of Illinois. The paperwork is in the process of being submitted to the State.

Conclusion:

If you really want to know what is happening in the HRS, please direct any questions you have to the President or any other member of the board. Since we are representatives of the HRS, we are the best source of information. Please do not rely on the rumor mill for information regarding important HRS issues.

We'll always give you an answer, not always one you want to hear, but an answer.

Elliott “Jimmy” James

The Joliet Training Area National battle is canceled for this year. The Range Control could not guarantee that the weekend of Oct 19-21 would be available.  Part of this problem is that the facility may close as Ft. McCoy is no longer interested in supporting it however it may be acquired by another military installation.  So all dates are reserved for the military.  There was an Army meeting regarding the fate of the JTA on Sept 6-7.  The results were inconclusive and the Range Control still could not guarantee the date chosen would be available for our event.  Further, there are some reservations by Range Control to allow WWII reenactments back onto the JTA after the accident and problems of the previous year.

Will the JTA be available again?  I have no answer but I think we will not be back in the near future.  I did not post an event website as I was waiting for the official go ahead from Range Control.  Also, I did not want to have to refund any pre-registrations if the event was canceled.

Rensallier is a possibility but at this point I will suggest that Stille Nacht be designated the National for 2007 to continue the tradition of the National battle being a tactical.  Since no other units stepped forward this year to host the National Battle, the JTA was chosen this July as the site.  Ft. Custer was looked into however no dates this fall were available.  Two other military training areas were considered but due to the distance and need for a recon to plan the event this was not an option for me at this point.

I do apologize for this and hope there is not too much inconvenience in canceling plans for Oct 19-21.  I am truly disappointed in this outcome. See you in the field...somewhere.

I have just found out that some HRS website requests that were sent to me have been going into the spam section of my e-mail.  If you have submitted an e-mail about the HRS site, and an unusual amount of time has passed and nothing has been done with your request, please re-send it and I will update the site.  I am sorry that this error has occurred.
